Welcome!

Hey, Kate here.

My first blog post is simply to welcome you here and also take a moment to talk about my book(s)! I’m excited and nervous, but those feelings seem to be best friends.

I’m debuting my first romantasy novel, Salt and Shadow: Legend of a Cursed Bloodline Sept 02 25 on Kindle and a wider release to follow on Oct 14 25.

I’ve never been a social media savvy person, so a lot of this is really new to me. I’ve primarily used social media over the last few years to find workouts, stay up to date with my favourite wrestlers and watch fail videos. I wish people falling didn’t make me laugh the way it did, but I can’t stop finding it funny, no matter how hard I try.

I want to share a bit about my novels, now that I have the space to.

All of my novels (which haven’t been published yet, of course) cover some really serious, challenging topics, but I write them in a fantasy world. Fantasy has always helped me process heavy things in safe way. I’ve loved fantasy forever, not just in books, but video games and movies as well. I have always loved exploring heavy topics in magical worlds because it gave me separation from the real world, while still allowing me to learn more about the way my mind operates.

Salt and Shadow is the first of my overall series, Ancient Shadow. This book follows Naomi, a woman who’s lead a tragic life that’s been so difficult she’s started to wonder if she’s cursed. It’s raw, and heavy at times. As the author of Naomi-a character I love and who is me in so many ways-I hope you’re enraged by her actions. I hope you love her and struggle with her. I want you to feel it all. I want you to be mad at her the way she treats herself and treats her friends and Romero. Ahh Romero, the other main character who has taken my heart in a few different realms.

As our series moves along, we will be diving into some topics you may not expect from fantasy. We’re going to have conversations about justice, what is it? Who has the right to monitor it and who decides what’s legal, what should send you to jail, and what sentences you to death? I’ve worked in the field of justice and social services for years, so this topic is always on my mind.

We’re going into organized crime, bounty hunters, high-level trafficking of substances, substance abuse; but keep in mind, this all ties into the mystery of a cursed bloodline and is interwoven into a system of spirituality.

We will be battling with religion and leadership. Who decides it? Who chooses what rules we follow and what is it that defines morality?

We’ll delve into prophecies, learn about a family so powerful that it had the capacity to change a prophecy that had been effective for thousands of years. Complex family dynamics are an absolute essential to my novels, because who doesn’t have a chaotic family history? (Or am I exposing myself here?) Who doesn’t have a grandmother that’s killed her cousin/best friend’s partner/baby’s father, who was a man that at one point she used to have a fling with?

We will explore gifts and abilities (don’t call it magic, they don’t like that!), and how those tie into the influence of the spirits and ancestors.

But almost none of that is in Salt and Shadow. Before we can get there, before we can get to the lore, the prophecies and the spirituality, we have to do some healing and uncover some of Naomi’s own mysteries and roots of her pain. She needs to have her own spiritual awakening. Naomi has some work to do, and you need to be there when she starts to heal, because it’s quite beautiful.

Salt and Shadow is a love story and a message of hope and a reminder to those that love comes in many forms and it isn’t romance that will save you, but you own strength that will, but, it doesn’t mean that the right supports can’t nudge you into the healing direction. While her story is fictional and so is the world of Dac, Nev and Kedar, many of the things she’s wrestles with aren’t fictional, and they are things that I am connected to, may it be through my work or personal life.

Thank you for joining me on this journey and taking the first steps into the shadows to explore the Legend of the Cursed Bloodline series.

Last notes: My website is still being worked on, I’ll be adding more pages (like a friends page, shop, etc.), but for now just take a look around. If you want to be friends and added on my page, reach out to me and let’s talk 🙂 I love meeting new people to support!

Meghan Saint did an AMAZING job on this website and I am so grateful for her incredible work and attention to detail!
